мÓÆÂÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û's Hylands School, Essex, has achieved the School Games Bronze Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and everyone at the school is delighted to have been recognised for this success.

Sporting achievements at the school this year include:

  • Introducing new sports to the extra-curricular timetable, these include hockey, dodgeball, trampolining and cricket.
  • School participation in competitions in cricket, basketball, rounders, athletics, cricket, hockey, netball, football and badminton.
  • A broadening of sports taught in lessons, to include softball, handball, dance, trampolining and team building along with traditional sports such as netball and football.
  • The school has introduced leadership opportunities in school and have Sports Ambassadors in Year 9 who help out with primary events and inter form competitions.
  • The school has held a number of inter form competitions for pupils to take part in during form time and lunchtimes.

Deputy Head Teacher Chris White said:

"With a total of around 70 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

Special thanks go to the PE Department and staff from other subjects who have given up their free time for our pupils; we are delighted to be awarded a School Games Bronze Mark Award"
